In many churches or worship centers, there are antiques accompanied by well-decorated carpets and good air ventilation just to make worshipers comfortable in the presence of their maker.

However the situation is different when you visit Jerusalem Church in Nairobi’s Kawangware's 56 area.

At this church, worshipers don’t have the luxury of sitting on chairs, neither do they have the privilege of walking on a well-carpeted floor.

In this church led by self-proclaimed prophetess Mary Sinaida alias Mart Akatsa or Mummy, worshipers sit on the bare floor made of sand and concrete.

Even the preacher ‘Mummy’ does not enjoy the luxury of a chair or table and does her preaching’s and teachings while standing.

While visiting the church, you will find worshipers comfortably sitting on stones, concrete, and grass as they listen to the bible teachings.

According to ‘Mummy’, even Jesus Christ and his followers never sat on chairs or in luxurious rooms as the case is today in many churches.

“The Christ and his 12 disciples and followers used to sit on the floor and there is no harm with us embracing the same,” she said in an interview with journalists recently.

The prophetess notes that sitting on chairs makes worshipers too comfortable giving the devil a chance to tempt them.

“They ( Jerusalem worshipers) are comfortable with these and it reflects the true teachings of the Bible,” she adds.

The Kawangware prophetess says that modern churches have been corrupted and given the devil a chance to torment believers.

“We are used to sitting on the floor and we are comfortable. In fact, we never desire for sits or red carpets as is the case in other places,” a worshiper who sought anonymity said.

The Jerusalem church is known for its strictness in regards to the Bible teachings.

In 1988, the Jerusalem Prophetess was in the headlines when it was alleged that Jesus was spotted at her Kawangware-based church.

The ‘Jesus’ that was spotted standing next to Prophetess Akatsa was later said to be a man of Asian origin who was on a worldwide tour and had visited the church.
