Popular multi-lingual movie narrator DJ Afro who is widely known for his tendency to 'spice' his movie narrations with obscene phrases, seems to have bowed to pressure by the Kenya Films Classification Board (KFCB).

This follows a meeting between KFCB, DJ Afro and Gikuyu TV (where Afro movies air) management last week where it was agreed among other things that Afro will be submitting his movies for review and classification.

Gikuyu TV, in the meantime, was required to suspend the airing of DJ Afro movies during the watershed period.

"CEO Dr Ezekiel Mutua will today hold discussions with DJ Afro and Gikuyu TV officials to discuss the airing of content in compliance with CAP 222 of the laws of Kenya and adherence to the watershed period (5am-10pm)," KFCB had tweeted ahead of the meeting.

A week later, however, DJ Afro movies are still airing on Gikuyu TV as usual. Yes, during the watershed period! But there is a major shift which seems to be very compliant with KFCB demands.

Before focusing on this 'major shift', it is good to first note that KFCB had no issues with the person of DJ Afro. What the 'moral police' had issues with, was Afro's apparent usage of obscene language in his narrations that KFCB considered 'harmful' to under-age children.

So, to ensure that Afro movie programming remained unchanged, the DJ and the TV station seem to have agreed that Afro desist from using vulgar language in his narrations which at least for now he is complying with.

On Sunday for instance, the TV station aired a DJ Afro-narrated movie about the biblical Samson and Delilah. So was Monday night where the movie had no usual DJ Afro 'naughty' phrases that characterize almost all his movies.
