The officer was part of the team manning a roadblock at Lukoye, along the Mumias-Bungoma road.

She was then deployed to escort the matatu after it was flagged down for noncompliance with the new traffic rules dubbed 'Michuki rules'.

The incident was confirmed by Mumias Traffic Base Commander Agnes Habbat who added that she deployed the officer.

"I assigned the officer the task of leading the vehicle to the police station but the driver decided to speed off with her to an unknown destination," she is quoted.

The officer also reportedly sustained some injuries in the course of her encounter with the driver, as he tried to push her out of the car.

"She sustained bruises on her neck and chest from the struggle with the driver, who attempted to throw her out of the moving vehicle," she is further quoted.

The officer, according to the police boss, was rescued from the 'kidnap' by bodaboda riders who gave a chase and caught up with the car 10 kilometres from the roadblock.

The suspect managed to get away, but the police apprehended two people who were in the car.

The officer was treated and discharged at St Mary's Hospital.
