At the High Court, Owino lost to his competitor Francis Mureithi before securing a reprieve at the Appeals Court. However, Mr Mureithi challenged the results at the Apex court.

Moments after the ruling, Orengo, who acted on behalf of Owino, dedicated his latest victory as a lawyer in Supreme Court to God.

"Truth and justice prevailed today as the Supreme Court of Kenya upheld the election of @Babu_Owino as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Embakassi East Constituency. Congratulations and we thank the Almighty God for the victory," he said.

Mr Orengo was the lead council in Raila Odinga's case that challenged president Uhuru Kenyatta's victory in 2017 and become the first lawyer to successfully challenge presidential election results in Africa.

Owino, a first time legilator, hailed Orengo's contributions, adding that he is ready to serve his constituents without discrimination or prejudices.

"I more specifically want to that Senior Counsel Orengo for good work. I'll now work for the people of Embakasi East without fear. It's an honour and I am sure I'll deliver," he said.
