This comes at a time when the DP seems to be walking a tight rope with regards to his 2022 presidential bid, including an apparently growing rift between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

This has subjected him to many indirect bashings from Uhuru with regards to the ongoing purge on corruption, with many scandals revelations falling at his doorstep.

This has been seen as a demonstration of a worsening relationship between the two, which will ultimately have a very negative effect on Ruto's bid as he needs Uhuru to win.

Also in the picture is the seemingly growing closeness between Uhuru and opposition chief Raila Odinga, one which seems to have therown the DP outside the picture, Raila taking over.

However, despite all this, Mokua now says that any attempt to resign to avoid the humiliation and frustration will have a serious effects on his 2022 winning strategy and should stick there.

“If he decides to quit, he may as well have kissed his presidential ambition bye, he needs to withstand all the pressure from inside,” Mokua told the Saturday Standard.

But at the same time Ruto is under pressure from the opposition brigade which wants him to quit over the growing hostility between his camp and Uhuru.

Among the politicians pressuring him to exit is his former ally cum critic and Cherangany lawmaker Joshua Kuttuny who argues that he is outside already and has no other option.

"There is not need of living a life of pretense, let him go and play the role of the Opposition and offer oversight to the government because he seems to be already out of the system,” he said.

Ruto's allies have also raised alarm of an alleged plan by Raila to break the party with an aim of paralyzing Ruto's bid.
