The locals, led by James Wambua and Benedict Muimi said they are the legitimate owners of the controversial East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC) land that the firm claims they occupied illegally.

They addressed the press during the demolitions on Friday.

“We are at home and no one should tell us where we are. It is time Mutua comes out clear and ensure we get justice since we are the legal owners of this land,” Muimi said.

Muimi said the cement company should stop frustrating locals yet they possess the land’s legal documents.

On his part, Wambua claimed that police were bribed to offer security while their houses and property were being destroyed.

“We are all protected by the law with our property but, police who were guarding while our houses were being destroyed threatened to shoot us. We have been left homeless as if we didn’t have homes,” Wambua said.
