Senator Mwaura said that he was present when the embattled Kiambu County boss was shouted down.

According to the outspoken Jubilee Senator, the deputy president wanted Governor Waititu to speak but the crowd gestured in refusal.

Senator Mwaura made the revelation during NTV's Sidebar show on Wednesday.

"I was received very well in contrast to Waititu and there are clips to show that. People are tired of poor governance by Waititu. The market there was demolished and nothing was done. People are saying we want DP Ruto but on this one we don't agree with Waititu," Senator Mwaura said.

DP Ruto stopped at Githurai after a church service in Kahawa Wendani and addressed residents.

He was in the company of Governor Waititu and a host of Members of Parliament (MPs).

A video circulated online showed the Kiambu boss being jeered when he tried to speak.

The governor was arrested on May 23, 2019 by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives over corruption allegations.

Waititu has, however, denied any involvement in corruption, saying the graft allegations levelled against him are part of a political witchhunt.
