President Uhuru Kenyatta seems to be headed on a collision path with some of the Jubilee legislators over his memorandum on fuel Value Added Tax (VAT).
Following reports that he had proposed funds allocated to the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) be reduced, some Members of Parliament from Jubilee party to which he is the party leader have opened opposed the move.
Speaking to the press in his constituency on Sunday, Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany cautioned the president against any attempts to cut on NG-CDF funds.
Kositany, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto said they will not allow even a single cent to be slashed from the NG-CDF kitty in a bid to fill the gap that would have been left after tax on fuel is reduced to 8 per cent from 16 per cent.
“NG-CDF is the only fund that touches development projects such as building schools and roads which impacts residents at the grassroots directly. President Kenyatta should look for other avenues o raise the money needed,” said the first time MP.
“As members of Jubilee party we are not going allow the government to reduce the funds meant for development at the grassroots level,” he added.
The MP said reducing funds for the NG-CDF kitty will negatively impact on development projects to Kenyans.
He pointed out that the government should be thinking of reducing the kitty and not cutting its budget.
