The marauding thugs operating mostly in Nairobi streets employ a number of tricks in their criminal exploits.

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has revealed one of the tricks the thieves use to steal side mirrors from unsuspecting drivers.

Speaking on NTV's AM Live show on Tuesday, the Kericho senator said that one of the tricks employed by the thugs is distraction.

Cheruiyot noted that one of the thugs knocks at your right window to attract your attention and as you are concentrating on them, another one is busy unscrewing the side mirror.

"You have been in this town Debarl, I don't know how long you have been around, there is something they call 'mtupe nimsanye'. If you ask the youth who know this town well, they will tell you there are thugs who operate on the streets. If they were to operate on a street like this, like they sometimes do, what they do is that when you are driving one of them will come and knock on your right side window. While you are concentrating on him, the other one will be unscrewing your side mirror on the left side," said Senator Cheruiyot.

The side mirrors and wipers are later sold in the black market.
