The incident happened on Friday at Ahero in Kisumu County.

According to witnesses, Japheth Obiero, a matatu conductor returned home on Friday evening only to be told his wife packed all her belongings and left the house after a quarrel with his parents.

“Obiero operates as a tout plying Awasi-Kisumu route. He arrived home and found his wife missing and when he questioned his young siblings, they told him that she quarreled with the parents before she packed and left the homestead,” said John Bota.

Bota said an angry Obiero picked a wooden block which he used to attack his parents and left them with serious injuries.

He said efforts by the man’s young siblings to have the wife wait for her husband before she left the homestead were futile as she had already made up her mind.

Area assistant chief Benjamin Ogora said the man’s mother was rushed to the hospital while in critical condition and his father was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

He warned children against beating up their parents saying the law will not bend for them.

“Beating parents is illegal and one may receive curses. The man’s parents are receiving treatment in hospital and once they will be discharged we will get to know why they chased their son’s wife away,” he noted.

He said the suspect has gone into hiding but he is being pursued by police.
