Nyeri Town legislator Ngunjiri Wambugu said the recent violent remarks by Ruto and his allies against the peace deal between Uhuru and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga was an an upfront to the President.

The DP has repeatedly termed the March 9 handshake as a "political conmanship" which is intended to be used as a tool against him in the 2022 polls.

Wambugu said by criticising the handshake Ruto was putting Uhuru's judgement in question and in effect sending a message to his support base that he was being "mislead" by Raila.

“This is a calculative message geared at portraying the President as one who doesn’t know what he’s doing," he said, speaking to Sunday Nation.https://www.nation.co.ke/news/politics/New-headache-for-Uhuru/1064-5028720-140ypgw/index.html

The legislator opined that by coming up with such allegations, Ruto’s hidden agenda was to turn tables against his boss in his Mount Kenya backyard.

"It is meant to undermine Uhuru as a President and cause him disfavour among his supporters in Central Kenya and across the country," he added.

The first-time MP further said the angry rhetoric, threats and insults Ruto's camp had directed at the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti was a sign the team was no longer respecting the Office of the President.

Uhuru has in various occasions praised Kinoti for his commitment to war on corruption and has directed him not to stop at anything until graft in defeated.

However, DP's allies led by Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen have accused the DCI boss of being used by "higher authorities" to target Ruto and the Kalenjin community.

Consequently, they have called for Kinoti's immediate sacking and recommended establishment of an independent institution to lead war on corruption.
