Residents of Nyamataro in Kitutu Chache South, Kisii County were left in a rude shock after a body of a man was found dumped by the roadside on Wednesday morning.
Locals said the deceased Dennis Mochache who has been a notorious thief was beheaded by the vigilante group. Confirming the incident, Kisii Central police OCPD Francis Nguli said locals have been complaining about Mochache.
"Police have been receiving complains about Mochache who has been robbing and killing people. We are probing who beheaded him because his head was lying next to his body," he said.
Nguli dismissed that police are aware that the vigilante group members killed the deceased.
"We can't tell who killed him since no one was there but, we are working around the clock to establish the killers," he stated.
He reiterated that locals should not take the law into their hands.
"No one is allowed to kill another. Criminals should be surrendered to police for court processing," he added.
Nguli said the deceased body was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital morgue.
He called on local youths to stop engaging in criminal activities saying the law will not spare them.
