Five years later, Ranguma is no longer the governor after being ousted by the then Kisumu senator Anyang' Nyong’o.

Nyong’o is now Kisumu County governor after scoring four major victories against his predecessor.

First, the former senator defeated Ranguma in the ODM party primaries ahead of the 2017 general elections.

The then incumbent governor cried foul saying he had been rigged out but Nyong’os win withstood the test of time.

Ranguma jumped ship and decided to defend his seat as an independent candidate, but again lost to Nyong'o.

The former governor headed to the High Court to challenge Nyong’o's win, but had his case thrown out due to lack of sufficient evidence.

The outcome was the same when he moved to the Court of appeal. After the court of appeal’s ruling in mid June this year, Ranguma said that he was not sure if he will head to the Supreme Court to challenge the court of appeal’s ruling.

“I will consult my lawyers but for now I am still not sure if we will move to the Supreme Court  to challenge the court of appeal’s ruing,” he said.

Over the weekend, Ranguma finally announced that he will henceforth support Nyong’o's reign as Kisumu governor.
