The incident happened on Friday evening in Metamaywa, Nyamira County.

Marisela Okwena was found at her neighbour’s farm harvesting maize at 6 pm.

“Marisela lives like a bird in a nest. She is among the notorious women thieves the village has ever had before. I went to check on my farm when I found her busy harvesting my maize,” said Boniface Nyabuto, the owner of the farm.

Nyabuto said she tried to escape but he caught he caught up with her.

“She started running away when she saw me but she could not go far before I got hold of her and raised alarm,” he noted.

Area assistant chief, Brian Keragori, said angry locals who responded beat up the woman mercilessly before he rescued her.

“I rescued her from the jaws of death because the angry locals could have killed her. A 50 kg sack full of maize was recovered,” he noted.

He warned locals against stealing people’s property especially maize during this harvesting season.

Keragori said the law will not bend for criminals to continue with their illegal activities in the area.
