Wangari said death sentence is outdated.

She said that the courts are trying to take the country back to the colonial era that did not value human life.

“My opinion is that death sentence is outdated and we cannot allow ourselves  go back to the hangman’s days,” the MP said in an interview on Citizen TV Power Breakfast show on Friday morning.

The lawmaker stated that the courts should have handed Kamande life imprisonment or other punishment.

Kamande’s death sentence continues to elicit sharp reactions.

Majority of Kenyans argue that the death sentence no longer applies in the Kenyan law.

Justice Lessit sentenced Kamande to death after the court found her guilty of murder.

Lessit, in her ruling, said the suspect stabbed her boyfriend 25 times and never showed remorse for action.

“The prosecution proved its case and demonstrated that she (Kamande) intentionally killed the deceased," she said.

“Young people should know that killing is not ‘cool’ and should learn on how to walk away and forgive if things are not working,” the Judge added.

Kamande has 14 days to appeal the death sentence.
