The initiative intends to improve access to quality health care in the County.

The roll out makes Kisumu County the first devolved unit to launch the initiative that is expected to take centre stage in all the counties across the country in the coming days.

Speaking during the launch of UHC in Seme, Governor Nyong'o urged all residents of Kisumu aged 18 years and above to ready their national identity cards for a registration drive set to commence in the coming days.

“I am appealing to all residents aged 18 and above to have their national IDs ready as well as birth certificates of their children and dependants in readiness for the massive registration drive to commence countywide in the next few days,” he said.

He urged community leaders and the national government officers to support residents to get all necessary documents needed for the exercise.

The launch was attended by among others, Seme Member of Parliament (MP) Dr James Nyikal.

“It is important that we deal with corruption at all levels so that the money that is meant for health does not get lost anywhere,” said the MP who is a member of the National Assembly’s health Committee.
