Mourners were left in a rude shock in Taracha, Kisii County after armed gangsters stormed a funeral and stole two cocks on Saturday 8 pm.
The bereaved family spokesman Jackson Onserio said villagers had convened at the homestead to plan for the deceased burial when the gangsters stormed the venue.
"We were ongoing with funeral arrangements when he heard screams from the house where a section of women were sleeping. We rushed there only to find armed three gangs wearing masks beating up the women," he said.
Onserio said the gangsters escaped through the window with three cocks after they saw mourners teaming up to apprehend them.
Area assistant chief Elias Mose who was among the mourners said probe has commenced to arrest the gangsters.
"It is shameful for thieves to steal from a funeral instead of condoling with the family. I will do everything possible to ensure the thieves are arrested and the cocks they stole be recovered," said Mose.
He attributed the incident to increased idleness among local youths.
"Our youths should venture into constructive activities instead of engaging in crime. The law will not spare upcoming criminals," he added.
The chief urged parents to report their male children who engage in criminal activities to authorities.
