The TAILG Group Company has since struck a deal with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in an agreement that will see the government waive duty on the motorbikes.

The deal was revealed on Monday at a UNEP summit during the company's meeting with Kisumu County Governor Anyang' Nyong'o.

The company's Marketing Manager Jayson Huang' said that the motorbikes will be brought in over the next four months and will be accompanied by technicians to service and observe them.

"We will bring the 50 electric motorbikes to Kisumu in the next four months, and also bring Chinese technicians to maintain and repair them," he said as quoted by the Standard.

The deal has also been approved by the Kenyan government and was hailed by Governor Nyong'o who noted that it will go a long way in bettering the bodaboda sector.

He noted that the sector has been a saviour to travellers who cannot afford to hire vehicles.

The sector is also one of the biggest and most lucrative in the county and the entire country, currently bringing in millions of shillings annually in revenue.
