Deputy President William Ruto on Friday hosted religious leaders from the North Rift region at his rural home in Sugoi.

In a post on his Facebook page, the DP also praised the role the church plays for the nation's unity.

He said the religious leaders had visited him for a prayer meeting.

“The Church is the glue that holds our nation together through prayer, intercession and ingraining bonds of unity, peace and love. It is an institution of harmony, deep faith and servant leadership that breeds oneness and a sense of belonging," reads part of Ruto's post.

A visit of the religious leaders come at a time there has been a heated political debate in the country over the 2022 succession politics in which DP Ruto has been at the centre stage.

Over the festive season, Ruto who is eying the country's top seat hosted a series of leaders from various regions in what pundits say is preparations for his 2022 presidential bid.
