An 80-year-old man has been murdered in Matungulu, Machakos County.
The deceased was found murdered in his house at Ngonda Village on Wednesday morning.
The incident was confirmed by Kangundo police boss Benjamin Ong'ombe who said the man was found dead inside his house this morning.
"I was notified on the incident this morning, the police arrived at the scene and confirmed the man's death," Ong'ombe said.
"The assailants who attacked the man killed him by slashing his head with a panga as his head had deep cuts," added he.
According to the deceased's relatives, they heard screams on Tuesday night only for the man's lifeless body to be discovered in his bedroom on Wednesday morning.
"We heard screams at night, but we didn't know where they were coming from. To our surprise this morning, we found him dead in his bedroom," a relative told this writer.
Ong'ombe said police have launched investigations into the incident.
He expressed confidence that those behind the murder will be arrested and arraigned in court as soon as possible.
"No suspect has been arrested but the police are on it. The police have launched investigations into the incident to apprehend the people who did this inhumane act," Ong'ombe said.
The body was removed to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital's mortuary.
