A man suspected to be gangster was stoned to death by an angry mob at Tono shopping center in Kenyenya, Kisii county.

Locals said the deceased Evans Ochako hailed from South Mugirango. 

One of the traders claimed that Ochako threatened to be behead him after he confronted him when gangsters broke into his kiosk and stole. 

"I confronted him because he is always loitering in the shopping center without going to job. He threatened to kill me and this prompted me to alert residents who apprehended him for questioning," said the trader Edward Manoti.

Mr Manoti said upon questioning the deceased he revealed that he has been among the thieves stealing from local shops.

"He pleaded for forgiveness after admitting that indeed he was a gangster. Angered members of the public could not listen to his plea. He was stoned to death," he noted. 

Isaac Thuranira area police boss said the suspect could not be rescued from the jaws of death by police. 

"Police arrived at the crime scene and found the deceased already dead," he said.

He warned members of the public against taking the law into their hands. 

"The body of the deceased was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.
