Sonko says that the building had been set for demolition two years ago but owners moved to court.

Speaking to journalists in Westlands on Friday, Sonko said that the court order has lapsed and that the building will be brought down in the coming week.

He asked tenants in the building to start moving out.

Sonko said that the mall sits on land reserved for road expansion and that it is to blame for flooding in Embakasi.

The governor told owners of the condmened buildings not to run to the courts because they will not be helped.

"The multi-agency leading the demolitions is working on executive orders and moving to court is pointless," he said.

Governor Sonko denied claims that the ongoing demolitions were malicious, saying it is aimed to save riparian land.

"I came under serious attacks when Nairobi flooded in April and I should be left to demolish the buildings that caused flooding in the city," he said.

Sonko said that he is not looking back and all buildings set for demolition will be brought down.

He however said that the team leading demolitions is so humane and that tenants are being allowed to remove their property before buildings are brought down.

He said that Nairobi county officials who approved construction of buildings on riparian land are being investigated and will be prosecuted.

On Friday, the multi-agency team demolished the Ukay center in Westlands.

Other buildings that have come down include the South-End mall owned by a politician along the Lang'ata road.
