A detective who was based in Nakuru was on Saturday buried at his Kiirie village in Nyeri days after he committed suicide.

Sergeant Waweru Wagombe was serving in Nakuru Bahati where he reportedly committed suicide.

At his rural home in Kiirie, Waweru was eulogized as a dedicated officer who served the country with all his heart.

During the burial, he received 21 guns salute from his colleagues.

Speakers at the burial asked the government to ensure they look after the welfare of police officers as many live with frustrations due to the nature of their work.

“Officers work under very difficult conditions and there is need to cater for not only their physical fitness but mental fitness as well,” said Julius Kathungu.

In Bahati, Waweru was popularly known as ‘Soldier’ and was a darling of the locals due to his dedication to fighting crime.
