Outspoken Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has launched a scathing attack on Deputy President William Ruto, arguing that his roles have been neutralized following President Uhuru Kenyatta's Executive Order on Tuesday.
Through the order, Uhuru assigned Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i duties among others, supervising, guiding, monitoring and communicating progress made by government in implementation of various projects.
Dr Matiang'i, who had also served in Education, Lands and ICT dockets, will chair powerful National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee and will directly report to the president.
"William Ruto is now officially deputy president without portfolio," wrote Owino, in a sarcastic statement directed towards the DP on his Twitter.
Also to serve in the powerful committee that will monitor all government projects are Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, who will deputise Matiang'i, all ministers, AG Kihara Kariuki and Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.
Already, a section of politicians have read hidden motive behind the move, with some arguing that Dr Ruto stands out to be the loser since he's been coordinating government functions on behalf of the president.
Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula wrote on Twitter: "Akufukuzaye hakwambii toka." (Whoever is unwilling to work with you, will not evict you directly).
Mr Owino, who survived Supreme Court election petition on Friday, is a key proponent of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga. He has often castigated those he believes that are saboteurs of BBI.
