Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has confirmed that the Mt Kenya region will have a new kingpin after the looming retirement of President Uhuru Kenyatta, the current kingpin.

This, however, comes at a time when Uhuru has remained largely silent on the matter, despite being only three years away from retirement from the top seat.

Speaking on Radio Citizen's Jambo Kenya show Thursday morning, Kabogo said that a person will shoot out whether or not Uhuru endorses his preferred leader to take over.

"We have always had people coming out to lead the region. The same will happen after Uhuru and there will be no vacuum whether or not he endorses one," he said.

The outspoken leader gave an example of Uhuru who was never at any point openly endorsed by his predecessor and former President Mwai Kibaki before taking over.

"We have always had leaders come out on their own and take over without being endorsed. Uhuru himself was never enforced but he managed to take over," he added.

However, the region has already shown signs that it will once again produce a candidate for the presidential race, following the declaration by Gatundu South lawmaker Moses Kuria.

However, Kuria is yet to officiate his bid, with many others likely to come out with time to declare an interest in the slot.
