Town rivals Top Fry Nakuru and Menengai Oilers will face off in the opening clash of the third round of the Stanbic Bank sponsored national sevens circuit at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos town.

Governor Alfred Mutua met the tournament organisers and sponsors at the stadium and assured players and fans of maximum security during the three-day rugby festival.

Flanked by the county minister for Sports and Culture, Faith Kithu, the governor hailed Mwamba RFC for opting to host the tournament in Machakos for the first time ever.

"I assure you this is one of the most secure stadia in Kenya with over 30 cctv cameras inside and outside with other ultra modern facilities like changing rooms and lounge," Mutua said.

The maiden edition of the tournament was played in 1986 to commemorate the passing away of charismatic George Mwangi Kabeberi, one of the founder members of Mwamba Rugby Club.

The tournament, which kicks off on Friday, is the third leg of the sevens circuit after Prinsloo in Nakuru and Sepetuka in Eldoret which were held in July.

Defending Champions, Impala Saracens will play in the opening round against Resolution in the tournament which promises to light up the tranquil town 62 kilometers south of the Nairobi.
