Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has vowed not to relent on the implementation of the new Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) despite 'protest' from Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT).

Speaking while launching the CBC training at Uhuru Gardens Primary school in a broadcast by Citizen TV, the CS said he is determined to work as per his energy on the mandate given to him affirming that the programme must go on as planned.

"When I decide to do something,I shall do it with all the energy that I have if I believe it is the right thing to do. Let us stop wasting time and concentrate on the goal, which is CBC," he said.

Magoha also assured parents that the program is bearable since it seeks to exploit the abilities in students as the "curriculum will focus on lesson content and more on the acquisition of competencies."

The new curriculum was rolled out in January from grade one to three by then CS Education Amina Mohammed despite the opposition from the education stakeholders and Magoha has reiterated that the ministry is focused to see its full implementation by the end of the year.

"We want to assure our parents that we are going to standard four by September Undeterred and by the end of the year we shall have reached level 9," he maintained

Earlier last week, KNUT Secretary general Wilson Sossion asked teachers to boycott the training until the ministry consults the stakeholders in the education sector.
