Migori Governor Okoth Obado has over the last one week been making headlines for all wrong reasons.
The latest allegation linking him to the brutal murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno just highlights his checkered political career since thrusting into the limelight in 2013 with a shock win against veteran politicians to win the gubernatorial seat.
With the heat now turning on him over the murder, it is certain that his future in Nyanza politics is now hanging on the balance. Or will he defy all odds again and establish himself as a formidable political actor?
After many days of 'hiding', on Tuesday, Obado emerged from his shadows when he was grilled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over what he knows about the murder of Ms Otieno.
He would later emerge in a press conference on Wednesday. And the bold Obado was ready to face his 'political tormentors' by declaring his innocence. Further, he promised to co-operate with the authorities whenever called upon.
What does this mean? Obado who has been the thorn in the flesh of many veteran politicians in Nyanza over the past few years is ready to take any challenge head-on. And it is this rare courage that will save his political career.
