The last one week has been one of the worst for Deputy President William Ruto who is now facing a major battle to bring his political career back on track with 2022 election in mind.
With former Jubilee Party Secretary General David Murathe setting in motion seven days of political madness within the party when he declared that he would ensure that the DP is barred from contesting the 2022 presidential race, the mood within the ruling party has never been same again. So what next for Ruto?
The presence of outspoken Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, a key Ruto disciple may bail out the DP, by taking head on his political detractors even as they build the momentum for 2022.
Though he has been uncharacteristically silent over the last few days, Duale emerged on Friday, and somehow, his presence has been felt by the DP's camp.
First, he warned those disrespecting the president.
Later, he allayed fears that Uhuru and Ruto do not see eye to eye.
Known for his sharp tongue, and the ruthlessness with which he can take on rivals, Duale is Ruto's true soldier remaining especially at a time Jubilee is in its worst period since its formation in 2016.
Is the National Assembly Majority leader the DP's saviour?
Well, time will tell. But if his brand of politics is anything to go by, then Ruto has a true soldier who can fight for him especially at a time ODM leader Raila Odinga has reinvented his political career.
