A 30-year old woman was on Sunday beaten and chased away by her husband in Rongo, Migori County for allegedly being barren.
Neighbors said the man, Jared Okoth, married his wife, Elizabeth Nyarenda, seven years ago, but since then, they have not been blessed with a child.
“Okoth has taken his wife to several hospitals for medication because her womb had complications. A lot of money has been used for the past seven years but the woman could not heal and conceive,” said Augustine Omondi, one of the neighbors.
According to Omondi, Okoth returned home on Sunday evening and asked the wife to leave his house.
"Elizabeth refused to get out of the house as ordered by her husband and this lead to the beating. She was thoroughly beaten before she was rescued by neighbors, who helped her pack her belongings and left to an unknown place,” he said.
Area Chief Job Ogato, said he tried talking the man to allow his wife stay but Okoth could hear none of it.
Ogato urged men to be patient with their wives on matters children, adding that God’s time is best.
