In a Facebook post, Wanga wished the team all the best ahead of the tournament which kicks off on June 21, in Egypt.

“I have received overwhelming phonecalls and messages from friends, family and fans from all over. It is so humbling and encouraging at the same time, it is every player's dream to represent their National team at whatever level and I believe I did my best and worked even harder to try and impress the coach but he had his reasons.

"I will keep working even harder because I am not the type to give up. I have trained and played with the selected players and want to wish them all the best as they try to conquer Africa. Thanks to you all for your tremendous support," he posted on his page.

The team jetted to Paris, France on Friday for a three-week camp in preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

Only 12 players were part of the traveling party, with the remaining 15, who ply their trade overseas, set to link up with the team later.

Harambee Stars will play two friendly matches, one against Madagascar on June 7, in Paris, and another against the Democratic Republic of Congo a week later, on June 15, in Madrid, Spain.

The squad will then be trimmed to the final 23 players, who will represent the country in the continental tournament.
