Despite his initial opposition to the same, the vocal leader is now fully behind the push to among others, expand the executive to house more individuals.

In an interview on Wednesday, the lawmaker said that the same will eradicate the usual scramble for the presidency and post-election lamentations from the losing side.

He added that the changes which are also enjoying support from opposition leader Raila Odinga will eradicate the feeling of exclusion among election losers and their supporters.

"This is the time to correct the referendum after years of testing it. We need to introduce a mechanism that will eradicate the winner takes it all formula," he said.

Wetangula was speaking on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha.

Contrary to opinions from forces opposed to the referendum led by Deputy President William Ruto that the expansion will waste more funds in pay and allowances, Wetangula termed the narrative as a lie.

As a lawyer, he claimed that the Prime Minister slot will attract a salary of not more than Ksh1.2 million and Ksh1 million for the two deputies.

"Their salaries will be not exceed Ksh1.2 million and Ksh1 million for the Premier and the deputies respectively. That is nothing compared to the benefits we will reap," he added.

However, the opposers have maintained that they will not back the push which they have termed a plan to award election losers.

The changes have also been endorsed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
