The driver of the vehicle of the two Cuban doctors kidnapped by suspected Al-Shabaab militia in Mandera has been detained for 15 days pending investigations.

The driver, Isaack Ibrein Robow, appeared before Milimani Court Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe on Monday to shed more light on the abduction of doctors Landy Rodriguez (surgeon) and Herera Correa (physician).

The prosecution team had requested the court to give it more time to gather more information on the whereabouts of the doctors before the case is mentioned again as Kenyans await answers from the government.

Nzibe gave into the request by ordering police to detain the suspect for the 15 days.

Police Spokesman Charles Owino confirmed the abduction of the medics.

He revealed that their bodyguard was shot dead during the incident while heading to work on that fateful day. The abduction of the doctors has raised fear among medics in various counties including Kilifi.

The doctors now want security beefed up in their work stations.

Cuban doctors in several counties such as Garissa and Lamu have been withdrawn since the incident happened.

The case will be mentioned on April 30, 2019.
