Jumwa, ODM's Malindi township MP and Msambweni's Dori, declared their support for Ruto ahead of his 2022 presidential ambitions whenever Ruto held a public event each time he visited the Coast region. The two said their support is in line with the famous March 9, handshake between their party leader Odinga, and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

At his Capitol Hill Square offices, Odinga welcomed several coastal MPs who were led by Dori who also doubles up as Coast Parliamentary Group chairman.

Other leaders in the delegation were Owen Baya (Kilifi North) and Wiper Democratic Movement's Ali Mbogo (Kisauni). National Assembly Minority Whip and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed was also present.

Later on, former Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shabal joined the delegation for undisclosed talks.

Details of the meeting remain scanty but reports indicate the leaders may have used the opportunity to seek help from Odinga over Dori and Jumwa's possible expulsion from the party. If they are expelled, they will be forced to face a by-election. The leaders have however dismissed claims that they have left ODM for Ruto's Jubilee party.
