Deputy president William Ruto received a grand reception at Garissa airstrip on Sunday evening by local leaders led by the area Governor Ali Bunow Korane.

The deputy president will on Monday launch the construction of Dekaburi, Garissa Ndogo- Sankuri link road.

The 480.7 million shillings project is being conducted by the Kenya  Urnam Road Authority.

The DP will also preside over a funds drive for the local Islamic institutions- Madarasas.

While meeting with the local leaders at a hotel in the town, the DP urged the local leaders to unite and take advantage of 100 billion infrastructural development plan by the National government to develop the region by identifying prioritized areas through public participation.

"The leadership of northern Kenya should seize the opportunity presented by the government's Sh100bn infrastructure development programme that aims to open up the region. Through public participation, leaders will identify priority areas especially on roads, water, electricity that will speed up development and attract investors," said the DP.

This is the second time the DP is launching developmental projects in Garissa since they come into power in the second and the final term, as the first one took place a fortnight ago when he launched water projects in Fafi Constituency, besides driving mega contributions in support of Madarasas in the constituency.

Also present during the reception of the DP were: Majority leader Aden Duale, Women representative Anab Subow, the county secretary Abdi Ali Sheik, County Assembly Deputy Speaker Mohamud Abass and other top county government officials.
