They have called upon Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua to ensure that there is better services delivery in future when it comes to dealing with such situations.

They said that the county government has not been effective as far as containing fires that break out in the area are concerned after six business went down in flames.

The fire reportedly started at a tailoring shop before it spread to the other premises after efforts to contain the same proved futile. The residents of the area faulted the Mavoko Sub County Fire brigade for the delay in the response which they said led to the loss of property.

They said that the businesspersons, who lost property whose value cannot be estimated, wouldn’t have suffered such big losses had the firefighters swung into action in time.

"This is not the first time they have delayed to respond to a fire incident in this area,” said Stephen Mwangangi.

The residents were not happy with the delayed arrival of the firefighters to the point that they blocked them from accessing the scene incident. They told them to go back since they had also lost property. Police were forced to intervene in order to restore peace at the scene.
