Former Lagdera MP Farah Maalim was known as a no-nonsense person when served as the National Assembly Deputy Speaker in the 10th Parliament.

Maalim could not entertain any nonsense from MPs during the parliamentary proceedings he chaired.

On March 2, 2011, Maalim ordered the Sergeants at Arms to kick out former Makadara MP Gideon Mbuvi Sonko, now Nairobi governor, for dressing inappropriately.

Sonko had entered the chambers wearing ear studs and sunglasses.

Maalim ridiculed and condemned Sonko, saying that in the history of the House, no male MP had come to the Chambers wearing earrings.

The Deputy Speaker then warned Sonko against attending proceedings dressed like 'a woman'.
