President Uhuru Kenyatta has once against reached out to the Peoples’ Republic of China President Xi Jinping to get support to get the seat as soon as possible.

The Deputy Director for Asia Directorate in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lindsay Kiptiness has said that the two nations continue to enjoy cordial ties between each other.

Speaking during a meeting at the Chinese Embassy in Nairobi on Tuesday, Lindsay said that Kenya and China will continue working together to ensure that they reap big from the ties.

The envoy said the support of China will make this nation better positioned at the council.

“We urge our friends, including China, to support our candidature,” Kiptiness said, as quoted by Standard.

The government of China has, however, asked for more time to consult with the relevant parties before a decision can be made on the same. The country is one of the permanent members of the council.

China's support will be a big boost for Kenya as it seeks to strengthen its international ties with different countries of the world. The council has a seat reserved for Eastern African countries and Kenya is eyeing the post.

According to Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma, chances of success could be determined by the number of nations that show interest in the same.
