Residents of Mwamosioma village in Kisii County were left in shock after a woman burnt her 11-year-old daughter for allegedly stealing Sh2,000.

The fateful incident happened on Sunday evening. 

According to area chief Lawrence Omari, he received a phone call from Kianyabinge primary school headteacher who reported the heinous incident on Monday.

"I received a phone call from the teacher where the girl studies only to be informed that the pupil arrived in school in pain and she could not walk. I rushed there and found already the mother Norah Rang'ondi at the head teacher's office," he said.

The chief said the victim had several burns all over her body.

"The victim has burn injuries on her thighs, back and hands. Upon questioning the mother, she said she was disciplining the victim after she stole Sh2,000 from her handbag," noted the chief. 

He warned parents against such disciplinary measures noting that it is against the law.

"I could not release the woman to return home. I arrested her and surrendered her to Kisii Police Station to be arraigned in court where she will be charged over the assault," noted Omari.
