It has emerged that the management of the firm, which is located in Awendo, Migori County, cannot account for millions after a clique of lawyers allegedly defrauded it through fake payments.

Documents seen by Daily Nation, show that the miller is fighting to recover the lost amount through cases in Migori, Kisii and Kehancha courts.

There are many farmers who are yet to receive their compensation after supplying the firm with cane for several months despite records showing that they got their pay.

The miller has also been unable to harvest cane from some farmers in various regions leaving the product to rot on the farms. The huge volume of cases has left the miller in a state of limbo.

According to Mr Bernard Otieno, the company’s managing director, the firm's situation has continued to worsen over months as the court cases proceed.

He, however, assured farmers and other stakeholders that the amount will be recovered to ease the operations of the miller as soon as possible.

“It’s messy, murky and convoluted, but we will get to the bottom of it,” he said.

Farmers have been lamenting over unpaid dues for several months amid assurance from the management.
