The 40-year-old was reportedly trying to cross the road before the vehicle rammed into him, with witnesses saying that he misjudged the speed of the oncoming car.

According to area Disaster Management Officer Stanley Mutai, the victim died on the spot as a result of the hard impact of the accident.

He said that witnesses and area locals could not do anything to save his life.

“The Matatu hit him and run over him injuring him badly. We could do nothing to save his life,” said Mutai.

Area residents now want pumps erected in the area to prevent vehicles from over speeding, terming it an ignored blackspot.

“The area is a black spot due to the slopy nature of the road. Motorist always speed and accidents are very frequent,” said John Rono.

“We are in danger of being hit by speeding vehicles and the only way to avert such accidents, the government should erect bumps in the area,” said Elizabeth Ruto.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Longisa County Referral Hospital morgue, with locals saying that they will take it upon themselves to erect the bumps should the government fail to intervene within a week.

“We do not want to see more people being killed and nothing is done,” Ms Ruto added.
