In February this year, Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny, in an interview with KTN, revealed that Mr Wamalwa was on Uhuru's play cards before a last minute intervention.

According to Kutuny, Uhuru had planned to travel to Bungoma where he was set to unveil Wamalwa as his preferred running mate.

“I personally thwarted the separate arrangements the two leaders had. I convinced Uhuru not to go to Bungoma. I insisted that he needed to have another meeting with Ruto,” the lawmaker said as quoted by the Standard.

And on Wednesday, Wamalwa who appeared in an interview at KTN, confirmed that indeed Uhuru had picked him and was about to unveil him.

But the minister, who would be brought to government in 2015, two years after staying in the could, said he's now quiet and delivering the government agenda.

"It is true that I was meant to be Uhuru’s running mate. For now I’m quiet and performing the mandate given to me by the president," he said.

But Kutuny and his team worked around the clock to unite Uhuru and Deputy President William Ruto, who would later beat Raila Odinga in a closed contested polls.

“My group was in Mombasa waiting for me, they were shocked to see the breaking news that I had endorsed Uhuru for president and Ruto for deputy president in Narok. That was the turning point,” Kutuny revealed.
