On February 1, 2018, Kalonzo shed tears before cameras when former Prime Minister Raila Odinga narrated how the alleged grenade attack at his Karen home affected his wife.

The Ukambani political kingpin could not hold back his tears when Raila came out to condemn the act, terming it inhuman.

"I say 'pole' [sorry] to my brother Kalonzo after the attack on his home. He has a sick wife...imagine the kind of shock they got," Raila said.

Raila asked the police to speedily probe into the matter and bring to book those behind the attack.

He asked the government not to let the matter slip away like the late Jacob Juma's death.

"Police say they have identified the attackers ... they know them and they know who sent them. Let it not be like Jacob Juma or Chris Msando," Raila said.

Nairobi DCI commander Ireri Kamwende later assured the opposition and other Kenyans that the matter was being investigated by the police.

Kalonzo was at home during the incident that occurred at around 2.00am.

Fortunately, no one sustained injuries following the attack.

It is reported that unidentified men hurled the grenade at the home before they sped off
