Davis Wafula of the Guardforce security company allegedly collaborated with a bouncer controlling the crowd, at the Kenya Ferry Services channel in committing the crime.

The injured officer was in the company of a colleague, and had been deployed to flash out the guard after he reportedly stole a phone, and other valuables from a woman at the channel.

A fight ensued between the police and the other group as the officers attempted to arrest the guard, leaving the officer with injuries as the other managed to escape unhurt.

Confirming the incident, Likoni police boss Benjamin Rotich said that the guard was arrested after reinforcements were sent in, and will be arraigned to face charges of theft and assaulting an officer.

"We deployed more officers and at last he was arrested and he will appear in court once the investigations are over," he was quoted by the Standard.

On his side, the ferry guard force manager Charles Juma refused to comment on the matter.

Rotich said the injured officer is in stable condition.
