Mr Irungu was denied bail by Justice James Wakiaga despite putting a spirited defense through renowned criminal lawyer Cliff Ombeta.

In his ruling, Wakiaga said prosecution had proved Jowie's presence at the murder scene adding that his history of training with guns makes it impossible for him to be freed.

The judge also described him as ' a male version of sly queen and a women eater for lack of better terminology'.

In the photo widely circulated on social media, Jowie who was remanded at Industrial Area prison is seen in grey uniforms with police keeping check on him from a distance.

During the bail application, he asked the court to release him to treat his wound which he termed as 'deadly painful'.

His fiancé Jacque Maribe who was also charged with murder, was released on bond and the two are expected back to court in 2019 June for trial.

Prosecutors believe that Mr Irungu orchastrated Monica's murder after DNA test linked him to the scene of murder.
