This was after the Senator was forced to land in Mombasa after his flight from Kisumu failed to land at a Nairobi airport.

In a tweet Thursday, the lawmaker who hails from the opposition's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) said that his flight could not land at the airport due to traffic.

He stressed on the need for the government to address the issue of land grabbing, to facilitate the expansion of airports, and therefore avoid such instances in the future.

"So our KQ flight from Kisumu could not land in Nairobi due to traffic. We had to be diverted to Mombasa. It’s about time we stop grabbing all airports lands and expand our airports," he wrote on Thursday.

This comes a month after the government announced plans to hand over the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to the Kenya Airways.

The government through its Transport Ministry early last month said that it was considering handing over the airport as it seeks to elevate the ailing Kenyan aviation sector.

The matter is, however, marred with controversies after a section of politicians termed it a plot by top state officials to hijack the air transport sector.
