Through his Facebook account, the MP revealed that the thieves are among a gang contracted by the county to steal the street lights that he, installs in various parts of Thika.

"This morning at around 3am, some thieves contracted by the County were caught stealing streetlight led lamps at Karibaribi and a 2nd set of thieves caught at Gatuanyaga. This follows after a wide public outcry of vandalism of Street lights that my team has been installing in various parts of Thika Town. Both cases are being prosecuted at Thika courts this morning. Hope they get full force of law! What a loss of resources?" he said.

After an outcry from residents over wide vandalism of street lights by unknown people, Wainana came up with a plan to teach the thieves a lesson. The plan worked as they caught the thieves red-handed at Karibaribi and Gatuanyaga vandalizing the red lamp streetlights.

Wainana has been a great critic of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his administration. Their fall out started back in 2017 when Waititu fronted another candidate to vie for the Thika Town MP's seat.

This forced Wainana to vie as an independent candidate. There are rumours that he is positioning himself to vie for Kiambu governorship.
