Appearing before Kisumu Chief Magistrate Julius Ng’arng’ar, the seven were accused of committing the offences when students rioted early this month.

The school was closed indefinitely on July 02, 2018 after the riots, but has since been opened for learning.

The seven are accused of destroying property worth Sh2 million in the school compound.

They denied the charges and were released on a Sh50, 000 bond or Sh30, 000 bail each.

The case will be heard on August 07, 2018.

The seven students are among more than 20 who were questioned by police in Kisumu after the riots.

Kisumu Girls High School students rioted early this month due to claims of their religious freedom being curtailed.

The students also claimed that there was a strict policy on interacting with their peers from other schools.

“We had to close down the school because there was a lot of disturbance since Sunday evening. Their grievances touched on entertainment, freedom of worship and to some level, their food," Kisumu County director of education Ms Sabina Aroni said at the time.
