As citizens continue to elicit mixed reactions over the frosty relationship between Kenya and Somalia, exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna has now reignited the debate on the rightful owner of the Migingo Island.

According to Miguna, President Uhuru Kenyatta has no moral authority to wage war against Somalia yet Uganda has taken over the Island he believes belongs to this nation.

He said that there are many Kenyans who have been mistreated and even killed at the Island, but the government has not been responding towards the same.

Miguna, who has been very vocal on matters of national interest, also said that it is difficult for this country to cut off diplomatic nations including Somalia. Lieutenant-General (Rtd) Lucas Tumbo was on Saturday summoned back to Nairobi.

“Migingo Island has been occupied by Ugandan soldiers and police for more than 5 years. Many Kenyans who eke out a living on Migingo Island have been killed, tortured, harassed and humiliated. Yet Uhuru Kenyatta has never cut off diplomatic ties with Kaguta Museveni. #SomaliaVsKenya,” he Tweeted on Sunday.

He further said that President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are only fighting imaginary enemies.  He called upon the Jubilee regime to find better ways of addressing such issues in future.

“Despots have used war or imaginary threats from foreigners as diversionary tactics in order to buy time or avoid dealing with real and concrete domestic issues such as election frauds, high unemployment, poverty, corruption, tribalism and human rights abuses,” he claimed.

The withdrawal of the envoys comes barely two weeks after DP Ruto said that Kenya has no plans to retreat from Somalia in the fight against terror.
