A night guard was killed during the incident while his counterpart suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

Mandera East divisional police commander Eziekiel Singo’e who confirmed the incident said the robbers walked into Takbir Petrol Station while armed with crude weapons.

The robbers who were dressed in police uniform ordered the two watchmen who were on duty to lie down and then proceeded to tie them up.

Mr Singo’e said the gang broke down three steel doors of the building before they accessed the safe which contained the money.

“The guards were tied up by the attackers who then broke the safe and took at least Sh700,000 before escaping on foot,” said the police commander.

Mr Singo’e said one of the night guards screamed during the robbery before one of the robbers hit him with a blunt object on the head.

The night guard who was killed has been identified as Dakane Abdille Abdi and his colleague as Salat Osman Jelle.

“The watchman was killed for raising the alarm. He was hit on the back of the head with a blunt object by the robbers,” added Mr Singo’e as quoted by nation.co.ke.

The police commander who denied claims of police being involved in the robbery said they have launched investigations into the incident.
